Dowling, at Bellwood, in Geneva County, Alabama. His immortal spirit has taken its flight beyond the stars to God who gave it. He was born in Georgia in while his father's family were moving to Dale County, Alabama and was the youngest son, one of a large family of children, of Dempsey Dowling and the last of them to die. He was happily converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church South, near Ozark in ; was licensed to preach as a local preacher about and preached throughout this section at camp meetings, protracted meetings, house to house meetings, and grove meetings. He was often associated with the sainted Metcalf and Gipson in great revivals and many living now can testify to these truths.
He did not pretend to great brilliancy or oratorical power in the pulpit, but did possess a great zeal, magnanimity and faith, and was a devout believer in the writings and admirer of the life and character of the Apostle Paul. He lived for many years two miles south of Ozark and reared there his large family. His grandson, L. Duncan, is a member of the Alabama Conference.

Church South, for about 50 years and then joined the Methodist Protestant Church and was licensed as a preacher in that church at the time of his death. It chanced that he preached his last sermon in this section at Old Claybank Church, the church of his youth and the greater portion of his manhood, built and for many decades, maintained by his father and immediate relatives in main. He seemed to realize and expressed then his belief that he was delivering his last message to his loved ones and kindred there, asked them to meet him in heaven and requested Bro.
Dowling to sing in the close of the exercises one of his favorite hymns, "O when shall I see Jesus and Reign with him above. In his early young manhood he married Miss Betsey Ingram, a beautiful brunette, who survives him. He was buried at the burial place of several members of his family, at Providence Methodist Church, in Geneva county, Alabama.
His funeral services were conducted by Brother Rutledge, pastor of the Daleville circuit.
